Makayla's 1st Visit to the Dentist

Makayla had her very 1st dentist appointment today.  We went to see Dr. Lopez in Newport, a pediatric dentist.  He was a referral from her friends Rachee & Mia.  We checked out his website and it looked like the perfect place for Makayla's 1st visit.  It was catered to kids and was a fun and clean environment!  When we arrived they had a welcome sign for Makayla to greet her!  She felt so special!  They also had a kitchen, a movie on and video games!  Wow is all we could say!

Let's get started!  The dental hygienist called Makayla into the back for her cleaning.  Again, Wow!  There were 4 chairs set up next to each other so that you could see some of the other kids too.  I think that makes them more comfortable.  Right above their heads when they're getting their teeth cleaned are pretty big screens that play a movie for them while the get their cleaning.  Makayla got to watch Bugs Life.  She also got to pick out the flavors for her cleaning.  And of course she chose strawberry.  She was great for her cleaning and opened wide and listened so well!

After the cleaning, Dr. Lopez comes in to meet us.  He's super nice!  But he did wear these weird buggy glasses to really see into Makayla's mouth.  He checked every tooth thoroughly.  He said her 2-yr molars were not quite in yet and that's all that's left to make her mouth complete with teethers!  Not to worry because he's not sure why they're called 2-yr molars when most kids don't get them until close to 3 or after.  He noticed that she had sightly soft enamel on some of her teeth.  Not a huge concern, but we just have to brush, brush, brush and really get into those molars to keep them clean.  There was also one tooth on the bottom left that might have a cavity forming if we don't brush, brush, brush well.  So we'll have to do that to prevent that from happening.  Overall, he said her teeth were all great!  We're doing a good job brushing, but he'd like us to start flossing her teeth too.  One more thing to do at night before bed.  Ugh!

Here's a picture with Dr. L so you can actually see him without those silly glasses.

She did great!  They gave her a giant toothbrush that held her pink balloon down.  And a goody bag with a toy that she got to pick out and her pretty, pretty Princess toothbrush, toothpaste and floss.  Lots of goodies from the dentist today.  What a wonderful 1st experience at the dentist!  Wish my dentist office was that fun!
